George Gibson

(1839–1914)

George Gibson was a local property owner in Northcote.   Born in Scotland he arrived in Melbourne, via Sydney in 1857.  In 1861 he established a dairy on 5½ acres in Mitchell Street, Northcote and quickly expanded his stock from 40 to 70 cows. 

He proved an astute property tycoon building a portfolio of twelve properties in Northcote, fourteen in Collingwood and two in Fitzroy by 1888.
