Smith Street, Alphington

Smith Street Alphington first appears in the street directories in 1926.  It was named after the Smith brothers, Ross and Keith who with Wally Shiers and Jim Bennett became the first men to fly from England to Australia.  They arrived in Australia on 10th December 1919, the flight having taken 27 days.

The first resident in the street was John Squires.
