Charles William Hicks

Charles William Hicks was 21 when he embarked from Melbourne on board A39 Port Macquarie on June 15, 1915. he lived in Mitchell street, Northcote with his mother.he was a sub-lieutenant in the 1st Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train, finishing as a Captain in the 1st Division Artillery.

During combat in October 1918 Hicks was Mentioned in Dispatches.  

During the Second World War, Hicks reenlisted, serving first as a Captain at HQ in Adelaide before transferring to a Mechanisation Division in Melbourne.   Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel  he was assigned to the Australian Military Mission in Washington.
