John H. S. Reid

Born in Ballarat in 1856, John Reid studied carpentry under his father before moving to Mitchell Street, Northcote in the 1870s.  

With his brother, Reid formed a hay, corn, wood and coal business.  The flourishing business had had three employees and an annual turnover of £2,400.
