William Olver

William Olver was Mayor of Northcote twice,in 1931/32 and  in 1940/41. He served on the Northcote Council for 19 years, during which time he served as chairman on every Committee of Council. His involvement in the community covered hospitals and homes for the aged, bowling and other sporting clubs, Northcote High School, Preston and Northcote Technical School, Bell Street Girls' Secondary School, The Grocers' Association and The Masonic Lodge. He and his wife, Elsie, gave the annual "Ripples" prizes at Northcote High School for art and literary contributions to the school magazine. In the New Year's Day Honours list of 1957 he received an M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
