Private Claude Membrey

Private Claude Membrey (6 Battalion) of Merri Street, Northcote was killed by a sniper at Pozieres in 1916 aged 20.

He was the only son of James G. Membrey - member for Jika Jika in the State Legislative Assembly for many years - and had spent time serving in both Junior Cadets and Citizen's Forces. He was employed as a Municipal Clerk at Northcote Town Hall.

He is buried at Villers Bretonneaux, France.
