George Hatfield

1893- 1953

George Hatfield was a local businessman and strong promoter of youth movements in Preston. Born in Richmond in 1895, Hatfield served in the A.I.F. during the First World War before establishing a small knitting factory in Croxton. This later relocated to Plenty Road, Preston as the business expanded.
Amongst Hatfield’s contributions to the Preston community were:
  • Justice of the Peace
  • Councillor from 1947 to 1953
  • Establishment of the Youth center in Broadway, Reservoir in partnership with Cr. Gayther.
    Hatfield died in 1953, aged only 60.
