Rodney Malcolm Hogg

1951 -

Rodney Hogg was born in Richmond in 1951 and would go on to a controversial career that started at Northcote Cricket Club and ascended to Victorian, South Australian and Australian representation.  Hogg made his debut in the firsts for Northcote as a 16 year old in 1967/68.  A fiery fast bowler, Hogg helped Northcote climb from last the previous season, to premiers in Melbourne’s district competition during the summer of 1973/74, capturing 4/69 in the final against the Melbourne Cricket Club.  During a dark period for the ‘official’ national team during World Series Cricket, Hogg starred, capturing 41 wickets in a test series against England in 1978/79.  Injuries interrupted Hogg’s career, then a decision to join a ‘rebel tour’ to South Africa in 1985 ended his first-class career in Australia completely.

In 1990 he returned as Captain-coach of the Northcote District Cricket Club. Hogg was the first specialist bowler to coach the club.
