Jack Hamilton

Northcote Mayor

Jack Hamilton (1921 - 2001) was Mayor of Northcote in 1978/79 and 1982/83. As a schoolboy, he used to help his father deliver bread, then became a breadcarter himself. He was organiser of the Breadcarters Union for 9 years. he served in WW2 with the 67th Searchlight Battery in Darwin and elsewhere in Australia. and was a trustee of the Northcote RSL. He was also actively involved in the establishment of Northcote Library in Separation Street.
