Alan C. Bird

Northcote Mayor 1939 - 1940, 1958 - 1959

Alan Bird was Mayor of Northcote twice - 1939/40 and 1958/59. He was first elected to the non-Labor Council in 1930, aged 24, as a Labor candidate. He succeeded to the Federal seat of Batman after the death of Frank Brennan in 1949. He served his second term as Mayor while still an MP, and at the same time was the Chairman of the PANCH (Preston and Northcote Community Hospital) Committee. He died in July 1962. He has lent his name to the Alan Bird Park in St Georges Road, Northcote.
